My reading of ‘surrounded by Idiots’ raised such interest in me that I was thrilled when a colleague loaned me ‘surrounded by psychopaths’. This was written after Erikson recognised that a select group of people were using the information he provides in his first book to manipulate others. He wrote this book to provide us with an understanding of how to recognise when we are being manipulated and what in our innate characters could be used against us.

Disturbingly, I recognised many actions from both my past and my present, in my personal and professional life, and as such wanted to share this book as another learning opportunity providing even greater insight into how others can take advantage of both our strengths and our weaknesses.

As a leader, as a colleague, as a member of a team, I recommend this book to be read alongside ‘Surrounded by Idiots’. Not everyone in a team pulls their weight… but how do they get away with it? Why do some people fall prey to con artists than others? What do you need to look out for?

This insight I am gaining into human character has the double edged sword of enlightening me, as well as questioning the aspects of my green/yellow character I need to strengthen. Fascinating stuff!
